Can You Hear Me Now?            by Shauna Nouhra

"angels ... are consistent, patient and gentle: messages from the Divine are always so.
Picture
I haven’t always been so in-touch with my angel side. There are still times where I shrink from saying what I really feel and think for fear of offending someone else’s beliefs. One topic that seems to set many people off is the use of oracle cards. I’m not going to go into the use of divination back to the stone ages: fleeces, animal totems, rune stones etc. I’m going to leave it at this: everyone needs to do what resonates and feels true and authentic to them. When and if someone is ready for an idea, the right teacher, example or situation will present itself. Suffice it to say that I made my own peace with angel cards and I find them to be positive, encouraging and mind opening, offering a different perspective on situations and people in my life, for me to ponder, meditate on, and grow.

While I found a comfort level, family and friends haven’t always agreed. In a moment of compassion for a cousin who was going through a very trying and difficult time, I pulled some cards for her and wrote a long letter of encouragement and angel insights, hoping to assuage some of her pain. What I received back pricked my heart and brought tears to my eyes -- and not in a good way. She would pray for me to see "the truth."

And, with some distance and gentle thought on the matter, I hope she does. I am not afraid of prayers said for or about me. I am open to the voice of God, the Divine, Creator, Universe, and I welcome enlightenment from wherever or whoever presents it. Everything is for my development, the refinement of my faith and the opening of heart and mind. In truth, it’s ALL good.

So imagine my delight when my daughter plopped on my bed one night and asked me to pull a card for her. I love that she was open to asking and receiving, and that she trusted me to honor her and her request. I told her to choose a deck to which she answered that I had too many. Now any angel therapist would probably answer that there’s no such thing as too many card decks. Each has its own nuance, energy and flavor: each perfectly suited for a specific person, place or time. After some rummaging, she came up with the Archangels Oracle Deck by Doreen Virtue (her decks are my most favorite because they are filled with so much love and high vibrating energy). I shuffled, cleared and blessed the deck and then pulled one card: Gentleness ~ Archangel Sandalphon. The message says: “Be very gentle with yourself at this time. Surround yourself with gentle people, situations, and environments.”

We talked about what this meant to her in relation to her life and current situation. Then I shared that I really liked pulling cards for others, because there is always a message for me as well. The Law of Attraction means that I will draw to me people, situations and circumstances that resonate with my current vibration. If I drew someone to me who wanted a card reading, it means I have something in common with that person’s question or situation. Also, it would be beneficial to pay attention to the answers that person gets, because there is something important for me to learn or consider as well.

Everyone has the ability to “read” for themselves. It isn’t necessary to pay for someone else who is an “expert.” Everything we need for our guidance, help and growth is already inside of us. You can call it the Holy Spirit, the spark of Divinity or your spiritual GPS.  Whatever you call it, each of us has this gift within us. As she was leaving, my daughter jokingly asked if I wanted her to pull a card for me. I answered absolutely YES because she is just as capable of sharing messages as any other person. She got serious, did her own blessing/clearing/shuffling thing and pulled… Archangel Sandalphon – Gentleness! Why am I not surprised? Because angels are just cool like that and they are consistent, patient and gentle: messages from the Divine are always so.

I am a sacred seed, growing in the Divine garden: I am gently tended, lovingly encouraged and tenderly nurtured. A faithful gardener doesn’t trample her new seedlings; the joy of her heart. Instead she carefully gives them the exact care, nourishment and protection they need, not to just grow: but to THRIVE.

The angels who are God’s love in action, are exactly the same way with us, faithfully reaching and teaching and encouraging through whichever channel on the dial we pay attention to. So try angel cards, try walking a labyrinth, try meditation, try contemplative prayer. Watch for butterflies, angel clouds, pennies from Heaven or synchronicities.

Open your eyes, your ears and especially your heart:
Love, Guidance and Support are all around you.

Can you hear me now?

Love Letters from the Divine      by Shauna Nouhra

"the angels; our guardians and guides, are genius at weaving seemingly unrelated threads into a recognizable whole"
Picture
I’ve been away from the blog for awhile. I’ve been away in general – traveling to visit my husband working overseas, traveling with my mother to deliver a niece to the UK and visit my father’s family. But more specifically, I’ve been away from myself – running away from meditation and its pursuing revelations that require change, avoiding going too deep – showing little understanding or compassion for myself, preferring to skim along the surface of life. I have not been practicing loving self-care; instead I wallowed in unworthiness; finding fault, pointing fingers.

That downward spiral was recently checked by two things that at first seem totally unconnected – but the angels; our guardians and guides, are genius at weaving seemingly unrelated threads into a recognizable whole. I received an email advertising a class in Photoshop for people with inspirational Facebook pages. It related the story of the teacher; who through her use of beautiful, uplifting graphics with encouraging, authentic messages, had parlayed her readership to upwards of 40,000! How awesome to touch the lives and hearts of that many people in positive ways. The class was online and would be recorded. The price wasn’t awful, but my current means are limited so I let the email sit and re-read it a few times considering until it became crystal clear that it was the right next step. I have always loved art; colors, patterns and melding pictures with the perfect quote to convey an emotion and message. I sent up a silent prayer and hit the “register” button.

My children will tell you that I haven’t come up for air yet. I’ve only had one class so far, but the information that we’ve been given along with the awesome power of the Elements program have kept my brain in a continual blur: gradients, brushes, filters and layers all dance in my head in place of sugar-plums. I feel like I’ve stepped through the doorway to a place of enchantment. We have a group on Facebook where classmates can share their latest attempts and discuss the virtues of text boxes versus objects, and simplicity versus the “I Spy-esque” largesse I favor. The tenor is respectful, the comments are supportive, and our teacher keeps order with a gentle, encouraging “voice.”

Until now, I’ve been choosing quotes that are safe and acceptable: noted authors like Mike Dooley, respected teachers like Mother Theresa, or short ubiquitous sayings that populate the internet like “Spread your wings and fly.” But for my project today, I chose to use my own words: naked and vulnerable. My explanatory posting started like this, “I'm a little scared to share this one…”

In March of this year, I was blessed to attend a week long yoga retreat on the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica. It was a gift and totally unexpected. Costa Rica was not on my bucket-list, but the travel companions were dear to me, and the idea of adventure was appealing. It was a beautiful setting in a lush rain-forest  and it was wonderful living in community; eating local organic lovingly prepared food, meditating and practicing yoga twice-a-day, and the sound of the waves pounding the shore with macaws calling.

Very quickly, the group of loosely acquainted women became a cohesive tribe. Relationships sprouted, blossomed and grew as tropical days turned to star-drenched evenings and our sensitivity to myriad levels of moistness became acute. Our resort was eco-friendly meaning no air conditioning, no hair styling accoutrements and only the lone ceiling fan on a timer that needed to be restarted every 45 minutes. The yoga studio, situated on the second floor, had windows open in all directions to capture the wayward breezes creating an oasis of comfort, and languid ease.

On one of our last days, in said oasis, after an intense meditation - we were asked to gently open our eyes and just flow onto a paper, a note to ourselves; a message our Higher Selves wanted to convey. Near silent scribbling ensued until papers were quickly gathered up and whisked away. The moment passed, and soon with packing and good-byes; planes, trains and buses, we forgot the exercise in our transition back to daily life.

One afternoon, weeks later I was rushing through my day; irritated and frustrated - bills piled up, responsibilities dragging me down and feeling un-centered - I grabbed the mail out of the box carelessly, and an envelope caught my eye that was hand-addressed. Thoughtlessly, I ripped it open and beheld the first line,”Dearest Beloved One...” and it all came rushing back as I read those words, seemingly from a different person a world away - and I was brought to tears as I stood mute and motionless in the driveway; grieving for the loss of that wise-person, that sacred space, that authenticity and unity of purpose. I put it back quickly, like a sword into its sheath, and dropped it into the dark pocket at the end of my journal.

Today, I read it anew with fresh acceptance of the duality of our natures; with a new understanding and forgiveness for the person I am, straddling the slippery layers in the "jungles of time and space" as Mike Dooley most eloquently puts it. My return to the “classroom” has split something open within me and I was inspired to use my own words; to embrace my inner voice, and not just hide behind the words of "recognized" leaders, authors or authorities that seem "safe" to quote. Thank you dear teachers; Colleen and Jen in Costa Rica, and Laurel at Illuminating Souls - for creating safe, supportive and nurturing spaces where we can learn, share and grow. And thank you fellow adventurers, collaborators and kindred spirits, for your kindness, encouragement and unconditional acceptance. Namaste!

"Our angels have been given to us by a loving Creator to help, to protect, to guide and to connect us to Divine Love."
Picture
Welcome to my first-ever blog post. Please bear with me as I explore this new avenue of communication.

And as it happens, my first post is dedicated to the topic of comm-unication: angelic communication to be exact. Maybe you don't know much about angels, or maybe you don't really believe in them - but I'm here to share my experiences which are not only very real, but also very comforting, uplifting and, often times, humorous.

Angels have a sense of humor? Absolutely! God, Universe or Source, whatever you call our Creator, is pure LOVE and I personally believe She/He would have to have a pretty amazing sense of humor to create us, this world and angels to act as messengers during our sojourn here in "the jungles of Time and Space" as Mike Dooley calls it. (For more about Mike Dooley, who is awesome, please visit http://www.tut.com )

Getting back to the topic at hand, very briefly, we all have angels: at least one personal guardian angel who is assigned to you at birth and remains at your side until you make the leap into eternity, and most of us have a few more angels that are along for a reason, a season or a lesson. Your angels are communicating with you 24/7 or I should say "trying" to communicate with you. Sadly, most of us have our heads down, nose to the grindstone and blinders firmly in place while we struggle to find our path, our purpose and our place in this big earthly school. Our angels have been given to us by a loving Creator to help, to protect, to guide and to connect us to Divine Love.

We have these awesome resources standing by, ready, willing and able to help. However, they cannot interfere with our Free Will, so they are side-lined until we stop and ask for their help. Once we ask, and I would warmly recommend you to do so, they are able to step up and start sending us messages that will guide us to brighter days, smoother pathways, greener fields (you get the picture). And, here's where it gets interesting, they need to find ways to communicate these messages that we will actually pay attention to. They may whisper guidance in your ear; drop feathers in your path; have friends randomly suggest books, classes,or solutions; have you overhear other conversations that "coincidentally" mention the exact thing you need, etc. I love the quote that says "Coincidences are when God chooses to remain anonymous" - in other words there are NO coincidences, but there are PLENTY of angels on missions with messages for you and me.

To be continued...

Love and BIG Angel Blessings,
(\O/)
